Hi  I'm Miranda Corkin,  welcome to MKC Building Design.

I live and work in my own self-designed straw-bale house in the upper Blue Mountains, NSW.

My previous careers include international sports marketing, followed by ten years as a small business manager, building, creating and managing a wellness retreat in the Blue Mountains.  So I bring a professional and customer-focused approach to my building design work.

I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to design and build my own home - it's a joy to live in, and sparked my interest in sustainable design as a new career.   It's warm in winter, cool in summer and is easy and economical to run.  It was built with as few manufactured materials as possible and used timber, rock and clay from the site.

Sustainable building is no longer alternative building.  It's accessible to all home builders and renovators.  Good design and planning can make your home comfortable, efficient and economical - both financially and environmentally.

I have attained my qualification with a Diploma of Building Design and I am a member of the Building Designers Association of Australia.

In 2017 I was awarded the BDA National Award for Sustainable Residential Design for my own Blue Mountains home.
